  • Anton David Sorensen (Sorenson) was born on 13 August 1889 in Egtved, Denmark. Before immigrating to Canada he served for seven months with the volunteers in Copenhagen. Once in Canada, Anton farmed in Manitoba.

    On 20 November 1916, Anton enlisted with the Canadian Army Medical Corps in Winnipeg. He sailed to England in April of 1917 and was taken on strength wth the CAMC Depot.  He worked at the Bramshott Military Hospital until September of 1917. Anton went to France in November of 1917 and was posted to the 6th Canadian Field Ambulance. He served with this unit continuously (except for a leave in Paris) until April of 1919 when he returned to England and then to Canada.  Anton received his official discharge due to demobilization on 24 May 1919.

    Returning to Manitoba, Anton married Doris Bennett on 06 June 1923 in Winnipeg. They moved to Kenora in 1925 and Anton worked as an automotive mechanic until his retirement in 1954. They had one son, Gordon. Anton was active in the Kenora branch of the Legion, serving as its president in 1943-1944.

    Anton died on 13 September 1976 in Kenora. He is buried in Lake of the Woods Cemetery in Kenora beside his wife, Doris, who predeceased him in December 1969.
