  • George Thomas Beatty was born on 03 August 1898 in Beamsville, Lincoln, Ontario.  He was the only son of George Alexander Beatty and Jennie R. Box.  He had two older sisters, Rhea and Lena.  A brother, Frank, died at age 18 months. The family was living in Beamsville in 1901 where George Sr. was employed as a clerk.  By 1911 the family moved to Kenora, Ontario and George Sr. worked in a clothing store.

At age 18, George Thomas enlisted with the Royal Air Force in Winnipeg, Manitoba on 03 October 1918.  He went to Toronto and was discharged on 07 January 1919 as being surplus to RAF requirements and having suffered impairment since entry into the service.
