  • Pietro (Peter) Basso was born on 15 February 1885 in Italy. He was educated there and served as a private with the Italian army in the Allied Forces during WW1. In 1920, he and his wife, Dosolina (b. 1894 in Azzano, Italy), had a daughter, Ada Marie.

    In May of 1921 Pietro immigrated to Canada and lodged with an Italian family in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He moved on to Sioux Lookout, Ontario and was joined there by Dosolina and Ada in 1924. Three sons were born: Bruno John(1925-2005), Archie (1926-1971) and Ivor.

    At some point the Basso family moved to Redditt, Ontario where Pietro was employed as a contractor for the coal docks of the CNR.

    Predeceased by his wife, Dosolina, in 1945, Pietro Basso died on 03 May 1964 in hospital in Kenora, Ontario. He and Dosolina are both buried in the cemetery in Redditt.
