Alfred Frederick Stevenson was born on 3 December 1898 in Rat Portage (later renamed Kenora) in northwestern Ontario. The name of Percy McLain appeared in the Kenora Miner and News edition of 26 December 1914, listing new recruits that had recently signed up in the area. Percy’s name nor service could be verified.
